Discussion Topic: How much is an NCAA team championship worth

Anyone care to speculate?
In the new age of incentivizing and monetizing, how much is it worth to the university? to the individual?
A champion is maybe worth 25 team points. In addition, they have a great influence on young wrestlers considering a future destination. A training partner in the form of a NCAA champion is valuable.

In terms of dollar value? Hard to say. Definitely in the millions.
- Cael won his first PSU title in 2011. In 2012 they dominated and put up 143 team points. In 2013 the NLWC received a $5 million gift.
- Ohio State won the 2015 team title. Later that year, the Jennings family made a $2.5 million gift to the program.
- Iowa got back on top in 2021, and in 2022 received a $7 million gift from the Goschke family for their new facility.
Ticket sales and other auxiliary revenues also obviously benefit from winning for any program, but the transformational money is always going to come from giving.
How that all translates in the NIL era, I'm not exactly sure. Boosters forking over funds to directly pay for recruits is obviously not a new concept in football. In wrestling it hasn't been a meaningful part of the landscape until now.

Brian-
Excellent point that most donors reward after excellence not before. People want to be associated with winning as losing is seen as a negative.
It makes sense that one team can dominate for many years in a row like Iowa, Penn State, the Yankees or any team that has superior funding as once that edge is established it is wash, repeat and rinse.
