The landscape of college wrestling tilted towards Stillwater today.
...and Coleman Scott is a sad man. Gave up the HC at UNC and got burned...but how could you not hire D.T.!!!!
Now imagine if Aaron Brooks isn't cleared to compete in Paris. Does OkSt allow D.T. to compete?

I’ll be very curious to see what the contract looks like. I’m assuming it’s substantial. Outside of Iowa, I doubt any other athletic program would pony up a contract to get their guy. Definitely splashy hire, I’ll give the Cowboys credit for that. So many questions to follow. Who does D.T. bring on staff? What does Coleman do? On and on.

Is it certain Scott left UNC on his own volition? It was known Koll had been looking around, is one of the top 5 coaches in the country, and UNC is his alma mater. Did Espo leaving just create a convenient landing spot? Maybe the job wasn’t promised him when he got there but they needed an assistant.
I’m really asking because I don’t know. Scott seems like a great guy.
In my opion the D.T. hire is going to be a big success or big disappointment. It will be fascinating to watch. The recruiting battle with Cael will be fun.

Oklahoma State spent the last several years as the team whose guys you wanted to wrestle at NCAA's if you were a tough Big Ten squad. Clearly, Smith wasn't doing his job as well. Last season, they looked better.
Now, they've brought in a potential game changer. I don't know David Taylor personally but I have to believe that all those years spent with Cael will prove highly beneficial.
Recruiting just got tougher for tOSU.
As for Coleman Scott, my assumption was he came on board to succeed Smith. Evidently, I was wrong.

Not just you - I would assume the whole nation of people who were watching.
As I stated in a group text - On the one hand, one must earn it. On the other hand, man...he left a head coaching job where he was making gains. ...and now this!?
It certainly makes me wonder what was the impetus for the Coleman Scott to OKST move in the first place. Did John Smith call and say "here's what I'd like" or did boosters or admin reach out? It all seems interesting.

Yes it does but some people have expressed outrage. Sorry. If you've lived long enough, you've probably gotten hosed somewhere along the way. If Scott didn't have something in writing, it wasn't a done deal.

I believe it was made clear that Coleman taking the head assistant job at OkSU a year ago was NOT a guarantee that he would get the job. I'm pretty sure it was described this way on FRL when it happened.
Nonetheless, this would be a tough pill for Coleman to swallow.

So much to unpack here.
First - kudos to Ok. State for big-game fishing. Certainly worth a shot.
I listened to FRL yesterday and they described Ok. State as one of the top 3 jobs. I found it interesting that tOSU wasn't even mentioned in that group, or close to it. Right now I'd have tOSU as a better job than Ok. State.
I do feel for Scott and wonder what's next. Would be a tough to stay unless family reasons need him in Stillwater.

Columbia is looking for a coach would he be interested in that job?
I'm curious to see what if any effects this has on PSU recruiting. M2 was a feeder program for PSU with guys like Haines, Kasak, Ryder to name a few. Will any follow him to Okie State? Kasak has a RS but rumors are he doesn't want to use it and will have to wrestle off SVN for 49 spot. Haines wants to move up but will have MM and a few others. Ryder is same boat will have numerous guys in 74-84 range.
The PSU posters are trying to talk themselves into this is no big deal Cael is Cael and will get whoever he wants.

Oklahoma State apparently had Taylor and Cunningham at the top of their list. They'd be at the top of my list, too.
This is pretty much an ideal situation. If everyone stays, he'll inherit:
--4 Years Eligibility Remaining--
Cael Hughes (top 10 recruit, just won Juniors over Larkin)
Christian Carroll (top 10 recruit, made OTT)
Cody Merrill (top 10 recruit)
--3 Years Eligibility Remaining--
Spratley (round of 12)
Jamison (NQ, wins over 5 AA's last year)
Williams (round of 16)
Thompson (top 10 recruit)
--Upper Classmen--
Plott (finalist)
Hamiti (multi-AA)
Fish (3x NQ)
Surber (3x NQ)
Doucet (2xNQ)
--Notable Incoming--
Lockett (in conversation with Blaze for top 2025 recruit)
There is A LOT to work with there, and their boosters have shown they're willing to step up on the NIL front now as well.

It certainly won't help PSU's recruiting. Tough to say how much it will impact them, though. They still have a lot more money than anyone else. Oklahoma State doesn't have an RTC, either.
I would think those M2 guys would be pretty torn between following Taylor or staying close to home. Levi Haines is an M2 guys. Would be cut throat and awesome if Taylor lured him out of PSU.

Gilman to Ok. State.
Wonder if this would be considered a positive or negative for Fix.
