I like the result but it wasn't a very good match.
Two shot clock points and a push out until the last couple of seconds?
In a folkstyle match they would have been 0-0 and going OT.

Not a very entertaining match, no, but limiting Alirez to 0 points is incredibly difficult. Neither Bartlett or Nick Lee were able to do anything close to that at OTT.
Mendez is still getting better and him being at Olympic team camp can only help.
In the past three months he has beaten (free & folk):
- Beau Bartlett x2
- Real Woods
- Brock Hardy
- Anthony Echemendia
- Joey McKenna
- James Green
- Yianni Diakomihalis
- Nashon Garrett
- Andrew Alirez
And took our Olympic rep down to the wire, in his fourth match of the day, with the other guy sitting out until the semi.

To be very clear, I was NOT being critical of Mendez in any way. No doubt that it was hard to beat someone who is that good. I simply felt the match was a snooze fest. Just my opinion.

Agreed--match was exceptionally boring. I was just using your post as a jumping off point because it forced me to think about all the guys he's beaten in a relatively short span.

I was expecting to watch a wrestling spectacle and ended up watching an online fundraiser. Good cause but I was bored out of my mind and just wanted to know when Alirez and Mendez were going to wrestle.
The discussion with Burroughs and Neil Degrasse Tyson was interesting.
The match itself might as well have taken place in a practice room. I'm glad Mendez won. Alirez looked bigger. I wouldn't draw any conclusions other than Mendez did a nice job strategically to get the pushout when he did.

No one mentioned Blaze’s teammate Burnett that wrestled in this event. Won by tech fall. Could be a future buckeye target.
