Discussion Topic: Millers Commit to Iowa
Hank Kornblut added to this discussion on June 20, 2024

Cleveland.com has had St Eds Miller twins committing to Iowa on the front page of their website for several days. That must mean people are clicking on it.

What this means to me is that the name recognition of Iowa wrestling is still much higher than any other college program.

Most of us see the Miller's as solid performers who are most likely headed to Iowa to add depth. Or, perhaps, I'm missing something and they're seen as having untapped potential? I couldn't say with certainty.

But these guys are not multiple state champs with huge national credentials in comparison to top tier recruits. Yet Iowa is still such a huge brand in the public eye that this has been a story with "legs" as they say.

What's crazy to me is that these are not considered 'top' recruits. Aren't they top-100 in the rankings? Thought I saw one of the twins was 73.

My point - any more there seems to be a wide chasm between the top 10-15 and the rest of the top 100.

I think it is emblematic of the bloom being off the rose for Iowa. Maybe they now have to recruit more for potential than just pick and choosing from the cream of the crop.

Also, there is a lot of chatter on Iowa posts that the Ferrari stuff has chased some very good wrestlers away.

Roe: I didn't take it that way. The article stated that other big name programs were interested including Ohio State. Now, did Iowa overpay? Perhaps. But they may have extra money to throw around and chose to do so. This could be a sign of the way things now are. Iowa will pay guys to come because they can afford to.

I don't want to live in a world where a kid on pace to be a 4X D1 finalist representing the best program in Ohio isn't considered a high-level recruit! Will be rooting for these two.
