Putin's pissed off so the Russians are showing solidarity.
Personally, I think punishing the athletes because your goverment/leaders do awful things is unfair. I'd be overjoyed if Putin was poisoned, blown up or flung from an airplane (all things he has done to others).
But the wrestlers have nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine.

So the IOC banned certain Russian wrestlers from the Olympics because of their stance on the Russia/Ukraine conflict and then the Russians said, “if you’re not letting our entire team compete, then none of our wrestlers will compete”. Thats the long and short of it, right?

If so, in this very limited scope, I’m completely with the Russians. If every country’s athletes were allowed or not allowed to compete based on what their governments did, the Olympics would be a much smaller affair.

Michael that is the long and short of it as far as I can tell. I completely agree with your take.

So the fact that the Russians have repeatedly used systemic drug cheating has nothing to do with it?

JP…That doesn’t seem to be in the discussion. If that was why they were being banned, then that’s a completely different story.

All of that kind of relates to what I was wondering about.
Did the wrestlers make this decision or was the decision made for them?
I don't think we have any way of knowing the truth.

Officially the Russian Wrestling Federation (think USA Wrestling) chose to withdraw all their competitiors. I am sure they were advised to do so by someone within the Kremlin.

Did any other sports do so also? If not, why would the Kremlin single out wrestling only?

My assumption--yes. If I'm incorrect....
