This post was on Facebook. It comes from John Jeffire, a former Findlay College NAIA Team champion coach, as well as an author, poet and teacher. He's a very thoughtful guy and here's what he had to say about our Greco program:
"Ideas for US greco: forget traveling to international competition for a year and wasting money; freaking Lopez from Cuba and other top guys compete once or twice a year and spend 99% of their time preparing. Take the team or select individuals and coaches to Cuba or Armenia for that year and learn the freaking sport from the bottom up (yes, our coaches need to learn too). Or stay at home and invite entire high-end teams from other countries to train for an entire month with THEIR coaches running all the sessions and do this at least 6 times a year (a far better use of funds). Quit wrestling other Americans, which just reinforces crap habits that work on each other but not against guys who know what they're doing from other countries. Host a real international meet where at least two of the competitors in each weight are World/Olympic medalists from other countries. Quit with the excuses that the Euros have more experienced coaches, they wrestle greco their entire lives, they have softer mats, etc. Something, anything, but the garbage we've witnessed in Paris. Sorry, I'm at a loss and believe we can do better and had to get that off my chest..."

Or we could support the IOC dropping Greco and giving Freestyle ten weight classes?

If swimming and track can have a crazy number of medal events...if 3 on 3 basketball can be any Olympic sport...we can have 10 wt classes for both.
American Greco sucks because we're the JV and other parts of the world are the Varsity. Jeffire nails the problems and offers solid solutions.
