Buckeyes are listed as only having two pick ups
Maddox Shaw-157
Vince Bousakis-157/165
Lots of rumors were swirling about Bousakis potentially committing elsewhere. This is listed on flo’s site so I’m unclear if it’s a done deal or not. Either way, this is one of the smalller classes OSU has pulled in recent years. It’s evident that they were all in on Blaze so that would’ve made the outcome of this class look entirely different. They have no verbals for 2026 yet that I’ve seen but are heavily after Bassett and Forrest. Honestly, with the landscape of college wrestling and NIL I’m not confident they get either of them. So where to next? Currently, the Bucks are pretty deep at most weights with 25/33/41 not necessarily as needs. Obviously they have worked to pull in some middle weights. I’d think 197 would probably be a priority as well as 149.
Ohio HS in not super well represented in the national rankings after this senior class currently. Grey Burnett is probably the next major target coming out of the shate. He’s likely another 125-141 candidate

2 recruits... I'm not sure I've seen them with such a small class before.

Bucks should be in on #4 175 Adam Waters Jr. from Faith Christian.
Or try and flip #2 190 Carson Thomas from LaSalle who is committed to Indiana.

Bucks have a problem--David Taylor. His presence at Ok State changes their recruiting trajectory. Bucks were in on most major recruits not heading to Penn State. Now it's going to be PSU and Ok State giving them fits. Plus, Iowa has money, money, money to offer.
Aside--Virginia Tech has been recruiting very well.
Aside part 2--Coach Ryan seems to be doubling down on "loyalty" as the recruiting game changes due to NIL. Generally speaking I'm in agreement but this Carson Kharchla thing doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If Welsh can make that weight, he'd be my starter.
I used to think redshirting was a good idea but in today's landscape it's important to wrestle your best guys while they're healthy and available. I don't understand what the Bucks are doing at 133 either. Davino appears to be the best guy. We'll see how Sasso does at CKLV but my sense of things is he needs to move down a weight (assuming he can--I don't know the details of his health issues).
There is no more predictable wrestling universe due to transfer portal and NIL. Wrestle your best people at their best weights while they're in your room.

Willy from Mat Scouts is still indicating Vince is transferring, as of last night. Down to either Lehigh or UNC.

Honestly, how many of us saw Bassett and Forrest in Okie State singlets on social media and knowing Okie State has deep pockets, said yep, probably going there.
This isn't rocket science. Money talks.
The biggest programs are going to have the deepest pockets and Boosters with private planes.
Time to rewatch Moneyball, get inspired and figure how to make your money go farther. Except NCAA wrestling isn't anything like baseball. Going to have to write your own script.

Rex: I love "Moneyball" and get where you're coming from. Brendan McCrone fits that description.
I think guys like Feldman, Jesse Mendez, Rocco Welsh and Ben Davino are going to be more difficult to get.
Ohio State fans have been spoiled as far as recruiting goes throughout most of the Ryan era. That may be changing. Of course, this staff should never be underestimated. They've proved time and again they're capable of meeting challenges.

You guys are acting like tOSU isn’t a huge university with a a great program, great facilities, appealing campus life and deep pockets. I don’t understand? I feel like blaming NIL is an excuse. Everyone’s playing by the same rules and Ohio State has fantastic resources. If they’re getting out recruited then they’re getting out recruited.

Okie State has Paycom CEO, Chad Richison, supporting their mission. He is worth 2.3 billion. He is a mega donor. He wants Oklahoma State to win an NCAA championship. He can buy Oklahoma State a championship. He is a disruptor.
All things being relatively equal. Money is the change agent.

I disagree completely. In my opinion, the definition of recruiting has changed. It's not just about coaches and facilities like it used to be. NIL is probably one of the biggest reasons the top recruits will go to a school anymore. Money talks. Some of these kids are getting set up for life. And yes, Penn State, Iowa, Oklahoma state, and Michigan all have deeper pockets and more NIL money than Ohio State for wrestling. That is a problem that needs to be solved.

Waters is a 2026 and has visited the Bucks. He’s a high priority.
Thomas is a 2025 and signed with Indiana. He’s off the table.
The 2026 class is huge in OSU’s bid to keep pace with Iowa, Michigan, and Oklahoma State. We need more superstars.

Worth noting, Ohio State supposedly offered Blaze something like $600k/year.
That is a significant amount of money with major donors behind it. Given that he's not coming to Columbus, that money (within reason) can be reallocated.
OSU can, and should, be a major player in the transfer portal in 2025.
