NCAA Wrestling is just brutal.Carson isn't the only former AA who went 0-2 ( Salazar, Teemer, and Orine). Over time the grind just breaks down your body at least in Carson and Teemer case. Your body stops doing what your mind wants it to do. I think we all can relate to that in some way

Yep, just brutal.
And it rarely seems to get any "easier" in the consie bracket.

Unfortunately, it seems pretty easy for Penn State!

If you look at PSU schedule they always seem to have a few cupcakes and then the B10 schedule and that’ it. They don’t wrestle in any tournaments and their guys always seem to be fresh and ready to go.
Cael said the days of wrestling to break your opponent are over and it’s back to having fun and I think it shows in their wrestling.
Be curious if Bucks took similar approach if that would help some guys.
PSU has advantage of NLWC where their guys get to wrestle USA best everyday.

PSU also doesn't hesistate to rest wrestlers in duals. They're purposeful about all their manuvers

Maybe the most brutal tournament that I've seen in terms of higher seeds getting taken out like there is a bounty on their heads.
The tournament doesn't care about feelings; just who is better prepared to win that day in that match against that opponent.
I thought Figueroa and Alirez looked like they were wrestling not to lose. There is always going to be some young hungry tiger waiting in the wings ready to establish their dominance just like in the wild.
I've been contributing to AWN for awhile; it's why I'm less active on here as there are only so many hours in a day. But here is the start to a recent article.
In the wild, alpha predators create a hierarchy through force. Until they can’t. It’s nature’s revolving door. Wrestlers have their version of it called the NCAA Championships. Wrestlers compete to establish a dominance hierarchy. Each year there is going to be one champion and the others that made an attempt at it. Once you win a championship, there is an impetus to repeat. Essentially, you have laid claim to that space until someone else is able to unseat you or your eligibility is up.

OSU matches this morning
125 – McCrone v. Moore (UNC) – No matches against each other, and their common opponents record was similar, with McCrone’s being a little better. I favor Moore because I think he’s better on his feet, but McCrone’s top game can be the difference. Even if McCrone wins this one, he would have to beat Rivera and Seymour to AA. I don’t like his chances.
133 – Bouzakis v. Ayala (Iowa) – You have to favor Ayala, however, surprisingly, these two have never wrestled. Nic is wrestling so well right now, I think this is a 1 or 2 point match, and Nic’s history in those isn’t great. If Nick loses this one, he likely has Cardinal or Knox to AA. I like his chances.
141 – Mendez v. VomBaur (Minny) – Jesse is the favorite, but their only match was an OT win for Mendez. I think Jesse looked focused yesterday, and I think he gets the victory.
149 – D’Emilio v. Stiles (Or St) – No matches between these two, and few common opponents. However, based on those matches, I have to favor Stiles, his offense seems more dynamic. I think it will be close though, and DD has a history of coming up clutch. If DD falls short, I like his bloodround matchup (Whalen or Realbuto is my prediction).
157 – Cannon v. Scott (NC St.) – No matches between these two, and common opponents are Askey and Fish. Both lost to Fish, both have beaten Askey. Honestly, I like Cannon in this one. I just think he will be motivated after getting screwed yesterday. Cannon’s AA path is daunting – Scott, Hipolito, Zerban. Yikes.
165, 174 and 184 – All need to be better next year. Welsh improves the 184 spot, and they need new blood at 174. Unfortunately, what we saw from Birden was a lack of offense, which is what we saw with Paddy this year. I think Birden has the ability and the frame to be an offensive threat, but he needs to pull the trigger and be aggressive.
197 – Shumate v. Buchanan (Iowa) – Buchanan is 2-0 v. Shumate, and it’ll likely be 3-0. Shumate will have Glazier, Munoz or Little in his bloodround match.
285 – Feldman v. Mullen (VT) – No prior matches. I don’t like how Feldman is wrestling right now, but I think he pulls this one out. I think Nick gets to his bloodround match against Trephan.
Overall – I think the Bucks end up with three (3) AAs – Bouzakis, Mendez and DD. Unfortunately, the others fall short. Go Bucks.

Bucks sit tied for 4th right now, not bad. Unfortunately I think we see teams pass them up with this being the round big points are scored. I hope I'm wrong.

Missed the McCrone match, but I'm guessing it went as expected.
Ayala was on a mission and Nic seemed overwhelmed from the beginning. Knox or Wells in his bloodround match. I think he gets it done.
Mendez was freaking awesome. I like his chances tonight. He is wrestling on a different level than the last month or so.
