Winning 5 National Championship is a feat know one else probably will have the opportunity to reach. Would you consider him one of the best to ever compete at the D1 level? He was 119-4 overall in his career. He was very good but I wouldn't put him top 5. IMO I would put some 3timers ahead of him because of there level of dominates, accomplishments and tougher competition they had to face ( Snyder and Ruth).

Carter Starocci just accomplished something that will likely never occur again in winning a fifth title, and absolutely no one is even mentioning it. The guy wins his fifth, hugs his coaches, and starts an interview when POTUS walks in..interview ends. Then the story of the finals was clearly Hendrickson’s defeat of Steveson. I’m not sure if part of what’s been lost in all of this is attributed to the idea that Starocci has not been a blow your doors off type of champion, but he is incredibly impressive. I liken him more to Kyle Dake than any of the other four timers. He’s just a gritty impressive wrestler. He probably thought winning a fifth would differentiate him from the others. Clearly not. For my money I put him above Pat Smith and Yanni maybe. But that’s likely it. It would be helpful if we didn’t have a four timer for a least a while. It’s becoming a little too frequent to celebrate the incredible accomplishment that it is.

Jared: Blame Penn State for the frequency of 4 timers. Every stud recruit they have is a potential 4 timer esp. if they redshirt.

One of the problems with saying he did something no one else has ever done is that the other 4-timers never got the chance to wrestle for the 5th one. We are left to only speculate who might have also done it if the opportunity were there.

Three 4x champs in two years will do that, it's only natural.
There was a time when 4x Ohio state champs were also more revered than they are today... then we had 15 come along in the 2010's and it didn't feel so special anymore.
