Since 1929 Kent State has only had four coaches
Joe Begala
Ron Gray
Frank Romano and
Jim Andrassy

It will be interesting to follow what comes next

Honestly it doesn't seem like he was in high school all that long ago!!

Where do the years go?

For any coaching change, the administrative culture at KSU must be understood. Take Okie State, Penn State, Bucks, and Iowa. They have excellent alumni and administrative support. What makes coaching hard as an assistant in high school and college is a combination of coaching and administration. I find that most coaches want control or absolute control, and I have seen this alienate the alumni from support. Being aligned with the administration will keep your job, but may not lead to success. It isn't as collaborative as we might hope or think. I know many assistants who never run practices or show tech, even though they may be very qualified. This happens at many schools, but oddly not at the best schools. Well I don't know about Oklahoma State, but Penn State, Bucks, and Iowa all the guys show tech.

Does KSU administration fully support the program? Does the new coach unite the alumni? Do the assistants collaborate with the Head Coach? I am excited for what's next for them. I think it's a great region, and the next coach needs to be a recruiter. PA and Ohio are great areas to recruit. I have heard some things about a possible next coach, but I already got my ass handed to me for commenting on a new coach, so I have to leave it there. If it's true and happens, we will be pleased and excited.

FYI, Boomer, the Lake Erie head coach, is now the associate head coach at JCU. I believe Lake Erie will still have a team next year and will be looking for a coach. i hope they keep it going at Lake Erie.

KSU has not been very good since Ian Miller and doesn't appear to get a lot of administrative support. Maybe they bring back Josh Moore?

The arc of KSU under Andrassy is interesting. For several years in the mid-teens they were excellent, producing nationally relevant wrestlers annually. And many were not high level recruits so you can point directly to development in the room.

Then all of a sudden there was a steep decline in performance. I do think you can point to Moore's departure as an event that aligns to the poor results. He would be a slam-dunk hire for KSU.
