Davino, Kilkesry, and Munaretto bow out prior to the challenge tournament finals. Vinnie lost pretty early in the challenge tournament. I didn’t catch how they did on the backside.
U23 quarters are Sunday. McCrone, Bousakis, Birden, Fishback, and Geog still alive and fighting for a spot

Does top three at U23 trials get you on the national team? I feel like it does. If so, that would be immensely beneficial to have more than half of your team to access the national team resources and coaches

I think Cannon went 13-1 on the weekend with most of those wins by TF

Saw the graphic on IG regarding Cannon. A win and then a loss to Cardenas. 12 straight wins through consolations. That deserves a shout out and recognition of some sort.

You don't do that unless you are passionate about the sport, because it's kind of ridiculous.

I did catch Zeb's interview with Rocco in which he talked about having better partners.

Having the right person to work with on the daily is a huge advantage. I had it with Randleman. I struggled at ASU because my workout partners did not complement me. Grey Burnett had Marcus Blaze.

Geog looked pretty good. His default attacks need some contingencies.

If you are really serious about this sport. You don't train to beat 95% of the guys. You train to beat the top 5%.

And the biggest tweak is how you think about it and the actions you condition yourself to perform.

This tournament got me excited for quite a few of the guys. Crazy that Bouzakis may be a National Team member but not be a starter on a ~top 5 team.

Rob,
That's fair. I remember watching him beat Mendes in a best-of-three for a U20 World Team spot. Freestyle is his style, not to say he isn't good at folk, but he is at ease in freestyle.
It makes me think that if Ono doesn't redshirt, top and bottom will be very, very difficult. The pressure on top is no joke in folk; it makes our style a big plus when transitioning to MMA, but not when going from freestyle to Folk. I could not imagine learning top and bottom in college... it seems late and will be, or maybe is, his Achilles' heel.
U20 reminded me of our old senior team trials. U23 was intense, and to win, you had to be skilled and in mid-season form. Great weekend at Spire

I've been vocal about being Bouzakis fan for awhile now. I think hes a very good mat wrestler in folk. Seems like he's always getting reversals when on bottom. I wish he had 1-2 go-to moves on his feet that he can be more dynamic with. Maybe he's working on it.
