I was at a NU Way, wrestling tournament at cedar point…absolute chaos, not fun. But I got to talk to Ben Peterson. Interesting fact, he did not invent the Peterson but did use it a lot, even in freestyle. He did say it was invented in the New England area when he was very young. The interesting part was how he afforded to wrestle freestyle. He said it was because of the generous help from one family, the Gables. They were willing to help Dan and achieve any goal, and help anyone around him. He was genuinely emotional about their help in reaching his goals. He told me about Chris Taylor, he was an athlete, and also talked about the West German who threw him. Turns out he sized him up when they first met. The guys today have it hard, but damn what was it like in the 60s and 70s. No friends and family, how could u even have a chance. He had great stories of Soviet wrestle style, college, it was an awesome 45 min. He had his medals, lots of advice, and was selling a book. I recommend taking a few min, and meeting him. FYI dude was jacked back in the day, his weightlifting was heavy.
I kept thinking about the stories a Burroughs, Dake, Taylor will share with men that were kids when they were great.

I as an 8th grader when I attended Ben and John's camp in Wisconsin. Mike Houk was there also and was my cabin's counselor.

Times WAY different back then but to your point, Ben and John were awesome. I remember holding their Gold medals then hearing about what the greater gold they treasured. Changed my life forever.
