Two Ohio gals made the finals in Jr. Freestyle:
115 lbs: Mackenzie Carder (22nd seed) will take on the 4 seed from Illinois

235 lbs: Deionna Borders (13 seed) will take on the 5 seed, again, from Illinois

At 120 lbs in Cadets, Carolyn Geckler is also a finalist.

Congrats to these women. And nice job Coaches Brady Hiatt, Reggie Lowery and company.

Jaclyn Bouzakis vs Katie Valdez was one helluva wrestling match. Finals on Flo. I'm sure it will find it's way to youtube. Watch the whole bout.

Add Coaches Shawn Andrews & Brian Nicola in there as well -- both .Net contributors.

I don't have the whole match but this caught my attention yesterday.
Getting used to how very flexible the ladies are was a HUGE adjustment as an official.

Looked like she was smiling knowing her own flexibility and wouldn't get pinned.

Reminds me of an old Flo video where Collin Palmer got put to his back at a summer tournament and gave a thumbs up to the camera as it zoomed in on him lol.

All signs point to "no"

Unfortunate, Central Ohio, as well as all of Ohio and Pennsylvania are packed with top girls. As stated many times, often they have to choose between a large school (if that's what they want) and "retire" early or go to a smaller, private school to keep competing. There's nothing wrong with a smaller school...many coaching friends helm these places and are killing it...but girls looking for a large-school environment are out of luck in-state.

Ohio first and only girl who placed in the boys division Olivia shore went to otterbein in its inaugural women’s year and was a national champion this past season. With the athletes getting paid now I’m sure schools are hesitant on bringing on more sports that will lose money.

Just wondering how you are so "sure"?

I am guessing that you have not been to any of the ladies matches that I have attended. The attendance at every one of them has been amazingly large, in some cases better than the men from the same school.

I am also wondering what your first statement has to do with the second statement?

If small schools can do it, there is NO reason that OSU could not add a women's team.
Iowa did it and their athletic department, from all I read, is a lot worse off than OSU.

The first statement and second statement have nothing to do with each other just saying there was some successful college girls wrestling in Ohio. Otterbein is d3 in sports which means no scholarships. It cost probably very little to field a girls team. At that level. I believe they had a very small team also. These coaches are not getting paid anything either.

I am not sure that Ohio state won’t get a women’s team but from what I see it doesn’t look good anytime soon. Ohio state athletic department is not doing better than iowas so you are also wrong there.
2024 Iowa +2.8 million from sports
2024 Ohio state -38 million from sports.
Ohio state has 12 more varsity teams than Iowa. All sports lose money except football and basketball. Ohio state won’t be too eager to add more teams imo.

So Iowa made 40 million dollars more than Ohio state.
Also Iowa has much more wrestling boosters that will support the woman’s program.

Then on top of that Ohio state is about to have to pay out who knows how much money from dr Strauss. While I would love a women’s wrestling team I don’t see it happening anytime soon.

Concerning the two statements, it would help if you learned to separate the paragraphs to make clear what you are saying. Additionally while there are no scholarships in D3, what makes you think there would be many, if any, for an OSU women's team? I would bet that a lot of ladies would jump at the chance to wrestle for OSU with or without money. That might not happen in the long run but I bet it would work as a start up. You never know until you try.

Your numbers concerning Iowa are nowhere close to what I have seen.

No doubt Iowa has more boosters for wrestling but, reading their forums, they also have more idiots.

The Strauss thing is completely unrelated.

In the 2024 fiscal year, the University of Iowa's athletic department reported a $2.8 million operating surplus, with total revenue of $173.2 million. This represents a positive financial position compared to the previous year, where they had a $7.1 million surplus on $167.4 million in revenue, according to Hawk Central

The Ohio State University athletic department reported a deficit of nearly $38 million for the 2024 fiscal year. This means the department spent $37.7 million more than it earned

The athletic department's revenue was down to nearly $255 million in fiscal year 2024, compared to over $279 million in the previous year.
Expenses totaled nearly $293 million, creating a deficit of $37.7 million.
Despite the deficit, Ohio State officials stated they have a robust plan in place to address the situation and manage future budgets

To manage the budget would not be to add sports. They have 16 mens teams and 17 women’s teams so I believe if they added women’s wrestling they may have to add another men’s team also. I’m not saying it will never happen but I think they need to get the budge under control first ecspecially with athletes now being paid. Women’s wrestling is the fastest growing sport in the United States so hopefully eventually it comes to fruition but not hopeful on anytime soon. Would love to get bouzakis little sister wrestling here. She’s an animal
