Probable starters per OSU website:

125 (3) Nic Bouzakis vs. (10) Maximo Renteria
133 (2) Ben Davino vs Gabe Whisenhunt/Jeffrey Lopez/Manny Saldate
141 (1) Jesse Mendez vs Nash Singleton/DJ Gillett
149 (6) Ethan Stiles vs Noah Tolentino
157 (2) Brandon Cannon vs C.J. Hamblin
165 (19) Paddy Gallagher vs (22) Matthew Olguin
174 (4) Carson Kharchla vs (21) Daschle Lamer/Graham Gambrall
184 (6) Dylan Fishback vs T.J. McDonnell
197 (14) Luke Geog vs (6) Justin Rademacher
285 (3) Nick Feldman vs Khale McDonnell

Looks like all the starters for Ohio State will be going on Sunday. 125 could be interesting, 165 looks pretty even and 197 should go to Oregon St.

This will be Geog 3rd match against a top 8 guy, if it goes the same way as the other 2 then hopefully they give Shunate a shot moving forward.

Bouzakis is such a beast at 125.

Bouzakis has passed every test this year (loss to McCrone notwithstanding), I really hope we get to see him at his best down the stretch.

Given Bouzakis' opponent was ranked #10, I thought it might be a close match, but he teched the kid. The question of who is the starter at 125 has to be over. The only two possible weights in question have to be 165 and 197. And from now til the Big Tens all the teams they face will be from the conference. Ironically Birden(165) and Shumate(197) both wrestled at the Midlands and won, which even complicates the decision more of who should be the starter. Hoping the coaches make the right decisions.

The grey cloud for me in the Bucks otherwise excellent performance against Oregon State is their top work. Match after match, I was looking for guys to keep their opponents down longer and wear them out--or score backs. Instead it was just efficiency at takedowns. It hurt Geog who needed to ride 24 seconds to win. I do think Geog wrestled a good match but there has to be a plan in place to take time off the clock in those situations from top. Drop to a leg, force him to the out of bounds, create a stalemate, burn clock. Easier said than done but top work in critical situations will be needed as the schedule gets tougher.

Different topic:

In spite of Birden winning Midlands, I'd stick with Paddy. His body of work, while a bit uneven, shows more potential to make the podium. As for Shumate v Geog, I have no idea. Geog has better leg attacks while Shumate scores in bunches. Glad I don't have to make the decision.

I realize it is difficult to ride for some guys, but TRY to keep your opponent down, give an effort, you may need it later in the match. I watched Shumate in a match at the Midlands with 45 sec. of riding time just let his guy up with no resistance. You are 15 sec. from getting riding time, go get it!

If the Buckeyes are dominating on their feet I don't mind the lack of riding. Best opportunity for bonus esp. with the 3 point takedown. It's also more entertaining to watch for us fans.

Until you're in the blood round at NCAA's and need to take the last 20 seconds off the clock in the 2nd period in a match where you're up 1 and you're opponent has choice in the third....Or you're in double OT and need to ride 30 seconds....etc....

Top work isn't rocket science. Just grab some video of PSU on top and watch how they counter their opponents. They make it look easy.

If you've made it that far at NCAA's most D.1 collegiate wrestlers should be able to do this; despite how much time they spent in neutral during the regular season.

Rob--nothing personal against you. I like and respect your perspectives. But yesterday Luke Geog couldn't ride out the end of regulation and then rode for less than 1 second in double OT. It cost him the match. He's not the only Buckeye who doesn't look like he can keep an opponent down in the clutch. Mark my words--it will bite someone in the as- in a critical match if not addressed.

True to some extent but wrapping your leg around an ankle and sitting on it should be called for what it is: stalling.

That's one of their strategies but if you watch them closely they are masters at recognizing how to react to each manuver their opponent makes. At least their better wrestlers.
