Things ramp up for the Bucks this week. This feels like the actual start of the Big Ten dual season. Ohio State was dominant against both programs during the national duals. The Bucks have been incredible consistent all year, but a month and a half removed from their last matchup the Bucks are visitors to both the Gophers and Huskers. I guess the basic question to be answered is will the Bucks continue on this tear all the way up to the PSU dual, or will they slide back to earth a little. I do believe they are the superior team to both programs right now, but I don’t think it will be as lopsided this time. Will Bousakis wrestle in both matches? Can Cannon maintain his momentum against highly ranked foes? Can Feldman do the same? While I think they go 2-0, there’s likely to be some upsets. Both teams dualed this past weekend.
Nebraska 20, Minnesota 12
125: #6 Jore Volk (MINN) over Alan Koehler (NEB) (Dec 4-1)
133: #8 Jacob Van Dee (NEB) over Brandon Morvari (MINN) (Dec 1-0)
141: #10 Vance Vombaur (MINN) over Jake Hockaday (NEB) (Dec 7-2)
149: #27 Drew Roberts (MINN) over Nikade Zinkin (NEB) (Dec 6-3)
157: #5 Antrell Taylor (NEB) over #20 Charlie Millard (MINN) (Fall 6:58)
165: #8 LJ Araujo (NEB) over #16 Andrew Sparks (MINN) (Dec 9-2)
174: #6 Christopher Minto (NEB) over #23 Ethan Riddle (MINN) (Dec 11-4)
184: #3 Max McEnelly (MINN) over #9 Silas Allred (NEB) (SV-1 4-1)
197: #15 Camden McDanel (NEB) over #25 Gavin Nelson (MINN) (Dec 7-2)
285: #4 A.J. Ferrari (NEB) over #9 Koy Hopke (MINN) (Dec 2-1)

One note. It’s highly likely that Mendes gets another matchup against Hardy at 141 for the Nebraska dual. Not to think negatively, but worse case scenario, there is absolutely a possibility where OSU loses from 157-285. We have seen nothing this year to suggest that would happen, but Nebraska is a formidable opponent with a lot of fire power in the back half of the lineup.

Hardy was out against Minnesota and curious if they will sit him against Bucks.
We haven’t see McCrone forever will he go against Minnesota since Nic already beat Volk once.
Do Birden or Shumate go in one of these dials?
I will not be shocked if Bucks lose to Nebraska they have a very good team.

I'd hold out Jesse vs Nebraska. Hardy needs to wrestle Jesse more than vice versa. I'd consider holding out cannon as well.

They are not wrestling brogan fielding against Hardy. Tom is more worried about winning the dual than protecting Jesse. Zero percent chance they sit Jesse. If you know the competitor that Jesse is then you know he would be furious if he wasn’t given the opportunity to wrestle also.
I expect all starters to wrestle. Shumate already lost to Mcdanel so I’m guessing geog goes.
Doubt we see Birden. Paddy has four losses this year and three were in overtime. The other one was against euton who is a Columbus kid who probably wrestled with extra motivation. Paddy is right there with anyone outside of Messenbrink.
These are all formidable opponents and Ohio state is not going to take them lightly by sitting guys.
Seeding implications matter more at big tens. Whether cannon or Jesse lose the result at big tens will carry most weight.
Mccrone has been hurt and if back maybe they let him beat Nebraska but they will be giving up a match if they send him out against Minnesota. Ohio state won all the toss ups last time around but hardy, Taylor, Ferrari, Silas, minto, arajuo are all very capable of winning at home. Not to mention they will wrestle van dee this time. This could be a very close dual and no chance we don’t wrestle the best guys.

Nick--Devil's advocate
Bucks won national duals. Big Ten matches mean NOTHING in terms of end of season goals. If I'm the Bucks staff, my #1 ambition is to do everything necessary to challenge for an NCAA championship. Everyone assumes it's PSU for sure but the Bucks are the only team that has a shot to win it outside of the Nitts. Bouzakis, Davino, Mendez, Cannon and Kharchla are all legit title contenders while Feldman, Stiles and Fishbach can compete for high placment as well. Geog/Shumate and Paddy are also in the AA conversation.
Do I want to win the dual with Nebraska? Of course. But Nebraska needs these matchups more than the Bucks do. The staff will make decisions they believe are in the team's best interests. I hope they think through what's best long term for this squad.

Ryan considers dual meets the "crown jewel" of college wrestling, essential for growing the sport and showcasing top teams. He is not going to wrestle guys like deselle and fielding. He has an undefeated season going and is not going to wrestle a whole bunch of backups to protect seeds. You don’t think that Tom wants to try and have an undefeated season? He wants the two undefeated teams to have the showdown at the end of the season.
I understand why you think it’s a good idea to sit them but I don’t see any scenario in which this happens. Tom will wrestle to win the dual and Nebraska is a real threat regardless of score first time around.

If you sit guys, can't that negatively affect their seeding for Big Ten Championship?

Bousakis has established himself as the starter with his resume of work. Rumor is that McCrone is taking a medical. Now it becomes about not burning Nick out with the scale, which there has not been any evidence of issue with this year. I do think we may see a little more of Kilkeary in the coming weeks for spot rest. Probably not this week, and certainly not Sunday.
Cannon is the one guy I worry about sliding back to earth a little. His win over Nebraska and other ranked wins during the year have launched him to the number 1 spot. He has looked solid; however, when I think of P.J. Duke and Meyer Shapiro especially, those guys are formidable. 157’is so deep. If he is still ranked number 1 heading into Big Tens it will be an immense accomplishment.
I also don’t know that Stiles is going to navigate this next month without some loses. His lack of offense isn’t going to measure up well against the Penn States of the world. He’s scrappy, I’ll give him that.

Should be two really good matches.
Seven (7) top ten match-ups in the Nebraska match alone.
Welcome to the Big Ten.

Wish this were true, but he's just not.
He's a tough out, but he's so limited offensively that he's not a real threat.

I think 165 you have MM in a class of his own.
Lockett, Caliendo and Blaze in 2nd tier.
A slew of guys in the 3rd tier: This is where I think Paddy could be any of them. With the right draw could sneak 5-8th on this year's podium.

Cannon won but looked like he tweaked his knee. If in doubt I would sit him vs Nebraska. Kilkeary had a nice win. In high school he used to do a lot of upper body stuff, I wish he would in college. McEnelly wins in OT, but how many shots did he take the whole match, maybe 2?
