Yeah. He’s pretty good at wrestling.
Brown from Ed’s wrestled him better than Ayala did.

The cradle really opened up the score. a 6-1 deficit is a little more easily overcome with a TD3. 6-4...not too shabby. But the E1 + TD3 & NF4 gave Jax a 14-1 lead. That has the capability to get to you.

A few years ago, Forrest TF'd Nato in a freestyle match. I remember being flabbergasted. Not any more.
Poor Ayala. He didn't wrestle a bad match. He just got shellacked.
Lucas Byrd represents everything wrong with rankings. He hasn't faced any of the frosh this season. He gets to stay atop the rankings as a result. Ayala has wrestled a brutal schedule.

I am likely in the minority but I have often wondered why "rankings" even exist? They prove nothing. The tournament at the end of the year is all that really matters so what is the difference who is #1 in December?

Jim: In fairness, it does give a good snapshot of the field and where wrestlers fall among the field. However, I will state that seeding does certainly matter.

Seeding, fine, I get that (even though it is often wrong).
But rankings are not seeding and they mean less than nothing except for fans to argue over.
Using Byrd as an example (because his name was brought up), he is ranked #1 but hasn't wrestled any of the freshman phenoms. That is not because of anything he did or didn't do. The schedule is completely out of his control. He is a a defending champion and hasn't been beaten. However take the ranking away and there is nothing to argue. At the end of the year, we will find out if he really is the best.
Like I said, I am sure that my view is in the minority so I understand that people just have to have something to complain about.
It was the same in the old Brakeman days, how is MY kid not ranked??

I just watched the video. While I don't think it's likely Ayala reverses that result, I could easily see some refs saying awarding a takedown to Ayala in both of the situations where it wasn't called due to reaction time.

I want to stress that what I say is my opinion only based on what I have seen over many years on the mat.
Reaction time will never have a "standard" that all of us can agree on. Reaction time in drag racing is considered to be somewhere between .050 and .1 seconds. However it is important to remember that the driver is anticipating a green light and his job is to cut it very close. Too close and they get a red light and lose.
One of the dumbest rules in NCAA wrestling went away a few years ago with the elimination of the rear standing touch takedown.
Why do I say that?
Simple in that you can not possibly react to something until it happens. The idea that because your hands touch the mat for a milli-second somehow means that you are now being "controlled" was just stupid.
BTW, while I am on the subject, I have to say that I really do not understand how just grabbing the opponents far ankle constitutes control either but that is a different discussion.

That was pretty much my point. Since there isn't a standard, some college officials have called it differently this season.
