Discussion Topic: Davino not seeded 1 is a joke
Ethan Moore added to this discussion on March 11, 2026

Forrest has 3 top 20 wins, 13 total wins.

Davino has 10 top 20 wins. 25-1.

(Wrestlestat.com my ranking reference)

Make it make sense.

I do think Forrest is the betting favorite, but he has not earned the 1 seed by body of work this season.

He got scrwed. Terrible decision. Davino gets punished for winning all season while Forrest gets rewarded for missing half a year and winning a much weaker conference at the wt.

Otherwise, the Bucks got some pretty good draws. I like Geog's in particular.

I'm not crazy about Cannon's draw, too close to Duke on the top side. But I guess if you make it to the quarters it's go time, no easy matches.

I would’ve given it to Davino but I’m not outraged.

Jax teched Ayala, smoked Larkin, and holds the only win over Seidel. It’s an elite resume. As for him missing the first part of the year, the seeding committee rightly avoided boxing itself into a corner in future seasons by not taking it into account. The sport is evolving. Jax won’t be the last HS senior to start college after Christmas. Also, Penn State doesn’t really get cranked up until January. Kyle Snyder only wrestled in big duals in his final year at OSU.

Ben has a tough draw in a difficult weight class. Byrd in the quarterfinals is brutal but I’m not sure there’s an argument for seeding Byrd anywhere but seventh after his two losses at Big 10.

Four Bucks are seeded to make the semis. That doesn’t include Feldman (fifth).

I thought the seeds were pretty solid throughout the weight classes...nothing really egregious. I get the Forrest has only wrestled half the season, but even had Blaze won the Big Ten Tourney and entered NCAAs undefeated, a legitimate argument could be made for Forrest. IF the realistic goal is to win the tournament, and I think that's the case for six or seven guys in this weight class, then you were going to have to beat everyone anyway.

As far as the brackets, from an Ohio State perspective, I like Fishback's draw.

His seed rewarded only wrestling 1/2 a season and devalued what Davino and Blaze did. Margin of victory shouldn't mean anything in seeding.

Byrd could/should be above Larkin. The seeding not taking into account past resume is asinine. It leads to stupid rankings like we saw with Staracci being a 9. Vincent Robinson a 12, yes a TWELVE this year, and Byrd a 7.

The seeding committee is bad -- and gives no rational for any of their decisions. Wrestling deserves better.

I thought Cannon at the 8 was egregious too. Guy has 2 losses on the season. Compare him to Antrel Taylor, the 2 seed, who has 3 losses, including a loss to Cannon!

Correct.

Seeding committee also seemingly considers all schedules to be equal. Ridiculous.

Seeding is meant to separate the primary contenders from each other. I feel like the 133-pound bracket did that just fine. There's one undefeated guy who has dominated all opponents except one, and that one is on his side of the bracket. Davino and Blaze have wrestled two bouts and both were won in OT on riding time tie-brakers. They'll meet for a rubber match in the semis. Lucas Byrd getting a higher seed would have only worked if you ONLY took past results into account and ignored his most recent results. When you look at who he's beaten this year and at his Big Ten tourney, how would you place him over the seven seed? He just didn't have as good a season as the five freshmen above him.

What am I missing?

Margin of victory absolutely should come into play. Dominance is hard to do and should be rewarded. Results from past seasons are factored into seeding through the coaches poll. That’s a big reason Mendez is seeded over Vega, I’d imagine.

Starocci tore his ACL and couldn’t wrestle in the Big Ten tournament. He had to be dinged. Not your best argument.

Margin of victory means little -- See Dake vs. D.T.. Their styles are RADICALLY different which is why Dake lost every internet match they had and won all the ones on the mat.

He shouldn't have been dinged down to 9. That was asinine and everybody knew it.

IMO, Larkin is a 7 while Ayala and Bryd move up one. No rational reason why Larkin should be above either guy.

So your beef is over the Big Ten 5th being one spot too low? It sounds like the seeding committee did a pretty good job then.

And Jax being #1. 13 matches shouldn't overrule the season resume's of Blaze and Davino.

So, what number of matches makes you eligible for a seed? Would you have been ok with Forrest not being seeded because he obviously hasn’t wrestled enough to justify it. Then he would be randomly placed or put in the 33 spot?

20 (or his team's entire schedule) to get a #1 -- especially for a true frosh.

He clearly should be seeded -- I just don't believe his 13-0 is better than Davino or Blaze's season.

The top two guys got penalized for splitting matches by razor thin margins but otherwise being undefeated wrestling in the toughest conference. I don't think that should happen. Just my $0.02
