Perrysburg with the team title over Eds in a close team race. Karson from Eds wins his fourth title. Overall a good weekend of wrestling. Special shout out to Aniya Polk from Shaw High School state runner up finish. First finalist from Shaw girl or boy since Lamar Washington in the early 90s.... Looking forward to the NCAA this weekend!

Really impressive showing by Perrysburg. Amazing to think that a year ago you have one of the greatest Ohio wrestlers of all time in Marcus Blaze, but it’s the year after that you take the team title. How long since Wadworth won it? 2009?
I know Karson Brown won his fourth title, and I thought I read that he was joining his brother at Pitt. Was he being pursued by Ohio State or any other major program?

Is PITT not a major program? Perhaps I'm reading in to your wording.
I was able to make it down for the semifinals and finals. There was high level wrestling across all mats. There are some remarkable young ladies who are moving the needle. I watched Linley Crow (9) - Liberty Center, finish 5th at Marion Harding over Christmas. She finished 7th at The Schott. That bottom half of 110 looked like a solid set of kids.
State & Nationally recognized & honored coach Brian Nicola (Olentangy Orange) has stated a few times that juniors and seniors are being pushed with each incoming crop. The technique with the current 5-8 grades is beginning to match the boys side. I affirm this, especially with the lower to mid weights.
On the boys side, it seemed to have it all, sending the arena into oohs & aahs throughout both nights. I was matside for the D-I finals but kept an eye on D-II & D-III.
D-I
113: Seacrist (BRECK) over Bickerton (MHIGH) was a slow & rather uneventful match, but it was a tactical struggle that demonstrated the art of the sport.
126: Burnett (PBRG) dec. Wurster (DCOF) 4-1 will probably prove to be one of those matches that gets revisited. I am unsure where (or how) Burnett fits in at PSU but I know two things - 1) I won't doubt the kid and 2) one of the best places to have a potential AA is on your bench, behind a higher AA. I suspect Wurster will end up doing amazing things wherever he lands.
132: Denkins (PBRG) by default. I am sure it has happened but I just don't recall seeing a default in the finals. Rare for sure.
138: Brown (STED) dec. Lopez (PBRG) 6-1 was closer (IMO) than the score reflects. Lopez, only a sophomore will do quite well in the future. Brown capped off a perfect 16-0 at the Schott. Very impressive; joining a growing list of 4xers.
144: Weisner (OCLY) dec. Rohr (MPER) 7-4 SV was the match of the night for me. Both guys were game opponents. The scramble that led to the final TD3 was absolute grit, athleticism, & training all wrapped into about 5-7 seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWVEL6SaykU - skip to the 9m 45s mark!
190: Pieffer (STED) dec. Horak (MPER) 4-1 SV was another match with bonus wrestling, but this one was cut short due to a PERFECTLY timed double leg by Pieffer. The last TD3 should be studied and emulated for future wrestlers.
285: Nicholson (MEDI) dec. Earnest (WADS) 9-7. Earnest had the match won with what seemed like 8 seconds left. Nicholson kept wrestling and secured the TD3. A crazy flurry at the end switched the result.
D-II
113: Walker (STRE) dec. DeShon (ASVS) 4-1 sounded like it had it all! The crowd kept erupting during the match. I noticed a few starts & stops, but apparently still entertaining.
157: Hughes (BEAV) dec. Rowlands (WATT) 2-1 TB -Admittedly, I'm a Rowlands homer, but I thought he had Hughes defensively pinned. Perhaps, in that situation, it would be difficult for an official to call.
215: Boyle (WATT) TF Eggers (NAPO) 21-5 - Boyle is a machine. It really is that simple.
D-III
120: Williams (TRIN) dec. Beckler (WYND) 4-2. I do not think there is another wrestle who caught and/or won the hearts of the fans more than Williams. It seemed like the whole arena (minus the Waynedale faithful) was pulling for him to win.
150: James (SMCC) dec. Kessen (DSJO) 1-0. Admittedly, I missed much of the nuance of this match but the 1-0 finish proved it was a tightly contested match for six minutes.
285: Kaiser (VERS) dec. Timms (ILAK) 4-3. The D-I 285 had ended and I was making my way around the mats. I arrived to the D-III mat for the very end of the match and the splits! FRESHMAN STATE CHAMPION (at 285 no less!).

Anyone know anymore about 285 Kaiser? I couldn’t find much. Apparently almost lost in Rd. 1 and won 2-1 in Rd. 2. Picture looked like he wasn’t just a big guy who bellied people around.
Pretty resilient for a frosh.

I've been asking this question about Karson Brown since he had that barnburner with Jax Forrest earlier this season. The Buckeyes are going to have a big hole at 141 after this year and he would be a great guy to fill it. I know not everyone wants to be a Buckeye, but that would be a great workout situation with Davino and presumably Mendez staying in Columbus to train. With the success Ohio State has had historically at 141 and J and Logan in the corner it would be a great fit IMO. Let's get this kid in Columbus!
