I don't know if anyone else saw these pics of Davino after the Finals loss. These are from a handle called Matside Media. They are gut-wrenching. There's 3, maybe 4 of Davino in a hallway, head in hands. One with J and Logan by his side and Bo looking on about 8 feet away. The only way I know to post this here is the url to the Matside Media Facebook link. Not sure if you can see them if you don't have Facebook. And, apparently he asked Ben's permission to use as well.

The pain of falling short is unique and brutal. One day you're older and gain perspective. Immense respect to Davino and Mendez for giving great efforts all season. Thank you. You made every fan feel proud to cheer you on.

ABC Wide World of Sports had it correct. "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat."

Only us old geezers would remember that: that describes his semi match with Blaze, and then his finals with Forrest.

I just remember they always showed an out of control downhill skier flying over a fence.

In many ways, Ben and Jesse’s agony of defeat is worse.

ABC Wide World of Sports was first to broadcast the NCAA finals, with Ken Kraft and Frank Gifford announcing if I remember. It was great to see the broadcast except sometimes they would show the first period then jump to somewhere in the third period. In fact I can't remember if they actually did all the weight classes, but it was a start at the time. Broadcasting college wrestling has come a long way over the years.

Too true. Always helpful to remind myself that for these young men, this is the most important moment of their lives up to this point. A loss really does feel like the world is ending in that moment.

Especially since that skier supposedly went dancing that night, according to a memory I found in the recesses of my mind.

Feels like Davino did all the heavy lifting. This can leave you a bit flat and exhausted for the next big match. Which is what happened.

Facts;

NCAA Semis Forrest v Seidel 14-3, and Davino v Blaze 3-2 TB (Blaze undefeated at this point)

National Open Semis Davino v Forrest 8-4 (Forrest undefeated since ?) and Blaze v Gross 6-1

Jesse did his best wrestling during the beginning of the season and at last year's team trials to date. He did some heavy lifting before he even wrestled Zain in last year's trials. Wrestled him very evenly minus a position.

When margins are razor thin, past matches in a tournament are cumulative and do take a toll on the next performance in front of you. Producing and matching that type of effort and focus against a high level peer is draining. Not so draining when it's someone that you beat decisively. Doesn't zap your reserves.
