wow !!!! ALOT of talent in these 3 kids, theres gonna be a scramble now to get them into other programs--- Platt is flat out a future NCAA champ, imo. Rella i am guessing will be a buckeye, but will have to sit out one year under Big Ten rules. From Press Release:
Three members of the Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team have been dismissed from the team, according to head coach Troy Sunderland. Freshmen
Garrett Scott
(Alexandria, Pa.) and
Jared Platt
(Blairstown, N.J.) and sophomore
Dave Rella
(Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) have all been dismissed from the squad for violation of team rules and the standards of the program.
"We have granted each of these young men a release from the team in order for them to continue their academic and athletic careers at different schools," Sunderland said.

Wonder what the infractions were? I remember years ago Cary Kolat and Jamarr Billman left the PSU program after promising starts. ???? <dry>

I just saw this article. What a crazy turn of events. Scott and Rella have already proven they can win at a high level in D1 while Platt looked very good as a redshirt. All will probably get chances elsewhere. Not gonna lie--Rella would look good in scarlet and grey assuming he's able to put whatever took place behind him. He could help all four Ohio D1 schools.

I really don't know what will happen, but I'm guessing Rella won't be looking to go to Ohio State considering what happened in his matches with Sponseller (majors if I recall correctly). Kent State, however, would benefit from having a national caliber 165lber with Kurt Gross leaving.

odds are Rella will be a buckeye-- will have to sit out a year because he is leaving a Big Ten school for another Big Ten school, he will have 2 years left, will wrestle at 174 in 2009.
The Dave Rella i've known is a good guy and a good student, too. Sometimes things don't work out, no ones fault, they just don't work out. Rella would be valuable addition to buckeye roster.

I know that Scott has had some skeletons in his past. Garrett was suspended from school for a computer usage policy issue the week before the state tournament in his senior year - he was seeking a fourth PA small-school state title. I also recall him having his enrollment delayed at Penn State because of some issues.
The only wrestling roadblock I could see for Platt is the ability to sustain 197 because of him being a diabetic (which was why he had to leave Blair for hom his sophomore year of high school). Didn't seem to be an issue in the redshirt year though.

The other hot rumor of the moment on themat.com is that former #1 ranked 215, Cody Gardner, may sign with Ohio State. Gardner was recruited by Virginia Tech but left the program during his frosh season. If sufficiently motivated, he'd be yet another 285 prospect for the Bucks.

Rella is coming to the Nation...make it official!
Just put it that Rella was granted his release when he asked and there's nothing more to it.
Welcome Home!

Gardner was a superior force in high school. Based on what I saw from him at the Ironman, he was possibly the best college heavyweight prospect I've seen. He had/has a great shot at being a national champion heavyweight in college, but we'll have to see how he is now after the time off the mat. My guess is he'd be the heir to the heavyweight spot after Morrison graduates, which means he'd have to beat out Columbus native John Hiles who is a very solid prospect as well.
