So were they able to raise all the $8 million already, or were they able to reach some sort of agreement where they'd get total amount within a certain time frame?

Reading between the lines...ASU wrestling has some major backers who support the athletic dept as well. I can't say for certain but I doubt that a number even remotely close to 8 mil was raised. I do think that some very pissed off alums made clear their support for the school would stop if wrestling wasn't re-instated. I think a much more modest amount--say 2 mil--was ponied up. And I think that certain alums agreed to raise more. And I also think they made clear that no decisions about wrestling should ever again be made without first consulting them. I doubt AD Lisa Love is in a real good place right now. My guess is she will tread very carefully for the foreseeable future.
All this conjecture on my part could be wrong. Just a hunch.
Here's the bigger question...Can Oregon wrestling yet be saved? Could this turn of events at ASU affect the situation at Oregon? One can only hope.

I will say this... It is refreshing to see that the powers that be recognized they made a mistake and fixed it. Far better than "sticking to their guns" in order to prove something.

Mark: Great point. Too many leaders feel admitting a mistake is a sign of weakness when it is just the opposite.
It also shows how out of touch Love was with one of her teams and its support. Gene Smith gets it and grows it. What, 45th two years ago, 2nd last year? Love doesn't get it so she kills it. Obviously the dynamcs of high school wrestling in the states are different but there is some history of solid collegiate success at ASU. Not perfect but few college programs are.

Due to these recent developments in the fight to save wrestling on the collegiate level, I have renewed my emails to Dr. Dave Frohnmayer, President, University of Oregon (pres@uoregon.edu) and Mr. Pat Kilkenny, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, University of Oregon (kilkenny@uoregon.edu) to see what they think about the reinstatement of ASU Wrestling.
I also asked why the "Save Oregon Wrestling" effort (which has raised $3 million) has never been given a fund amount to save their program like their brethren in Arizona? The SOW feel that the remaining funds would be pledged and given quickly if there was a goal in sight.

Scott...I would LOVE to know the response you receive! ASU cuts, then reinstates...Oregon cuts, but still holds out. Come on, Ducks!!! Get in the game!!!
