I hear it's official that Dave Rella has been accepted to Ohio State. Can anyone confirm?

Hank:
InterMat posted Rella to Ohio State on May 25.
----------

Maggie:
Here's what happened...

Rella asked to be released from the Penn State wrestling program for personal reasons.

There are two important points here.
1. Notice I said he asked to be released. He was not dismissed. The release was granted and it was a full release (which some other coaches might not have given).
2. He left for personal reasons, not public reasons. If you want to know why he left, ask him. Then you should probably ask he wants it to be talked about on a public forum.

An unfortunate mistake by a Penn State journalist regarding Rella's situation drew a lot of attention to it. The journalist did apologize for the error.

Since being granted a release, Rella has chosen to continue his academic and athletic careers at Ohio State. Since he was given a full release, he will not have to sit out a year. Rella, who will be a redshirt sophomore (three years of eligibility left), projects to be Ohio State's starting 174 pounder in this coming season.

Dan, isn't he going to be a true junior? He was class of '06, and started for two years. Erwin started at 165 in '06 while Rella was a senior at Walsh, and in '07, Rella started at 65 while Erwin redshirted, and last year they started at 165 and 174. He was the same class as Lance.

Yes, Pat is correct. He is a true junior and only has 2 years left.

I can confirm that David has been granted and has accepted admission to Ohio State. He is eligible immediately and has two years of eligibility remaining. I expect that a formal announcement will be forthcoming this week. It is great to be home!!!

Sometimes I wonder why they call it Happy Valley. Anyway, welcome home to Dave Rella and family!

Fantastic!! With Dave at 174, I think the only question marks will be 197 & 285. First fellow Walsh graduate Mike Pucillo came back "home", now Dave <smile> . BTW I like the slideshow. I never saw that picture angle of Mike at the end of the match when he cranked on Varner at the buzzer.

I have on pretty good authority that the CoMo we knew isn't the CoMo we will see. Much improved and more technical. I still think it is his if Gardner ends up at 197. I see him finishing his career in a Blake Kaplan-esque style, on the podium before he is done in 2010.

125- Triggas NQ +
133- Humphrey AA
141- Jaggers NC-High AA
149- Palmer High AA
157- Johnstone- Round of 12, low AA
165- Sponso - low AA
174- Rella- Low AA
184- NC-High AA
197- Gardner NQ+/low AA or Weakley NQ
285- Corey Morrison NQ+

I feel that those are slight Scarlet and Gray tinted glasses, but not much. If the stars aligned brillaintly, I could see all 10 on the podium, given the turnover at 285 and Triggas's big wins this spring and summer. Or, four could AA.

Everyone knows how har dit is to repeatas NCAA. IF both guys could do it, the points would be a huge boon for the quest.

Thoughts.

I was sleeping and right in the middle of a good dream
Like all at once I wake up from something that keeps knocking at my brain
Before I go insane I hold my pillow to my head
And spring up in my bed screaming out the words I dread
I think I love you

This morning I woke up with this feeling
I didn't know how to deal with and so I just decided to myself
I'd hide it to myself and never talk about it
And did not go and shout it when you walked into the room
I think I love you

I think I love you so what am I so afraid of
I'm afraid that I'm not sure of a love there is no cure for
I think I love you isn't that what life is made of
Though it worries me to say that I never felt this way

I don't know what I'm up against
I don't know what it's all about
I got so much to think about

Hey, I think I love you so what am I so afraid of
I'm afraid that I'm not sure of a love there is no cure for
I think I love you isn't that what life is made of
Though it worries me to say I never felt this way

Believe me you really don't have to worry
I only wanna make you happy and if you say "hey go away" I will
But I think better still I'd better stay around and love you
Do you think I have a case let me ask you to your face
Do you think you love me?

I think I love you
I think I love you
(I think I love you)
I think I love you
(I think I love you)
I think I love you
(I think I love you)
I think I love you
(I think I love you).

<smile>

Mark: I got the Partridge Family album with that song for a birthday present in third grade. I still remember how lucky everyone said I was to get it.

I think that it's great that Rella is back in Ohio and wrestling for Ohio State. I think that he will make an immediate impact at 174 and should flourish under Tom Ryan and being sandwiched between Sponseller and Pucillo.

This Ohio State squad is shaping up to be a very good one for next year and if Gardner is back in old form at 197 they could give Iowa a serious run for their money.

197 or 285--- U of Minnesota offered Gardner a full, to be their 285.

once he starts pumping iron again seriously, the wt is gonna come. He is about 6 ft, 4 as i recall.

Garner is about 6' 4" and if he could pack the muscle on him he could be a very serious threat at heavyweight which is a empty weight right now.

Bob what weekend is Ironman this year?
